Inclusion, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
The New Special Needs Code of Practice

On 1st September 2014, the Children and Families Act 2014 introduced a new framework for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) representing the biggest shift in SEN for 30 years. All Local Authorities are required to publish information on 'the Local Offer' about all SEND services, along with details of any eligibility for specialist services and a signpost to support for those who do not meet thresholds.

The school has attached the School's SEND policy, the Local Educational Authority's Offer and the School's Offer. If there are any questions Mrs Thomson (SENCO) would be pleased to answer them. Please contact her on: (020) 8203 3113.

Sunnyfields School aims to make every effort to secure provision for any child with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities and to improve their outcomes through high aspirations and expectations for children and young people with SEN and/or disabilities.

All Barnet Local Authority (LA) schools are expected to identify and support pupils with special educational needs and to support them in making the best possible progress. Schools are required to be inclusive, with the needs of pupils with special educational needs and disabilities being met in a mainstream setting wherever possible.

Schools have a duty to publish SEN information on their website that is reviewed annually. The Local Authority is also expected to publish information about services they expect to be available for the children and young people with SEN aged 0-25. This is called the 'Local Offer'. The intention of the Local Offer is to improve choice and information being given to families. It will be an important resource for parents and carers in understanding the range of services and provision in their local area.

Mrs Thomson is always available to discuss your child's needs. Please telephone the school to make an appointment.

If you need help reading the documents below she will try and arrange for a translator to help you.
