Physical Education

At Sunnyfields we want each of our children to choose to lead a healthy, active lifestyle. In order to achieve this we deliver a high quality curriculum which is designed to enable our children to enjoy physical activity, analyse their performance, know how to improve and reach their full potential.

Inclusion and Equal Opportunities

At Sunnyfields all children are entitled to participate in the P.E. curriculum regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion, language, ability or disability or special needs. All children's efforts are valued and supported in a safe, secure environment. Where children have specific needs adaptations to the curriculum are made  to ensure that all children have every opportunity to succeed at the particular stage of development.

P.E. Kit

All children must have a P.E. kit in school for all P.E. lessons. A full P.E. kit includes:

  • House colour T-Shirt (blue, green, red or yellow)
  • Black shorts (indoors)
  • Tracksuit bottoms (outdoors)
  • Sweatshirt (outdoors)
  • Pair of trainers (outdoors)

P.E. kits need to stay in school throughout the week as schedules can sometimes change. All kits will be sent home every half term to be washed.

Health and Safety

To ensure safe practice, the adults will:

  • Ensure high quality planning and preparation to be able to deliver a safe and effective P.E. curriculum,
  • Ensure that safe practices and procedures are carried out by children and have high standards of behaviour at all times,
  • Ensure that all equipment set out by children is checked before children use it,
  • Make sure the space, whether indoors or outdoors, is checked for potential hazards before each lesson in order to reduce risk and risks are removed,
  • Ensure that all First Aid Kits are easily accessible, i.e. Epipens and inhalers,
  • Make sure fixed and portable gymnastics equipment is inspected annually.

To ensure safe practice, the children will be taught:

  • To respond to relevant rules, laws, codes, etiquettes and safety procedures for different activities and events, in practice and during competition,
  • About the safety risks associated with wearing inappropriate clothing, footwear and jewellery and why particular items of clothing, footwear and protection are worn for particular activities,

Monitoring, Evaluation and Review

Training

Mr Ronchetti is a P.E. specialist and has regular updates provided by the L.A.

All staff have the opportunity to work with a P.E. specialist and to teach a lesson jointly.

The school employs additional P.E. specialists for short term programmes.

Planning

All teachers follow the school plan for P.E.

Skills in different disciplines are taught sequentially.

Evaluation

Each half term a group of children from one year group is asked for their views on their P.E. lessons. Their feedback is incorporated into the review process.

Staff are asked for feedback on what went well in the plans and whether there is anything that needs refining.

The P.E. policy is reviewed every 2 years and is ratified by the Curriculum of the Governing Body.
